  • HOB x Niña Williams Blog Holiday Entertaining Collection

A traditional Christmas pattern pairs with a classic blue & white palette for a fresh take on holiday! We launched a summer collection this year with Niña Williams Blog and could not wait to begin planning our Holiday Entertaining collection! Niña's signature style is so fun to design with and we love this collaboration! Are you ready to begin planning your holiday table settings? We have a few simple DIY tricks to elevate your table without breaking the bank too! You can shop this entire table below! The holidays are all about traditions for us. Getting together with family, friends, and loved ones, watching holiday movies, seeing the shining lights, & eating all the classic foods are just a few of our favorite things. Comment below what your holiday traditions are! THE TABLE SETTING We placed our Brown Starburst placemat first and then layered a brand-new antique-inspired plate on top. The blue & white floral motif is beautiful for the holidays, but can also be used during the spring and summer seasons. Its irregular shape ties in the traditional Italian ceramic ware beautifully. We folded our napkin like a Christmas tree and placed a sprig of cedar inside one of the folds. We bought a traditional blue & green tartan ribbon on Amazon to tie large-scale bows for each table setting. A mini bottle of prosecco brings the perfect opportunity for a toast! Name card holders are such a simple way to make your guests feel special. We love our glass bud vase version of the name card holder! We added tinsel for a little sparkle into the bauble. Brown Starburst Placemats Blue & White Plate Pom Pom White Napkin Grey Linen Table Runner Glass Bud Vase Name Holder THE CENTERPIECE We layered the table, so we kept the centerpiece simple & impactful! One trick for tablescapes is to create a focal point in the center and tier down in height on the sides. Faux greenery is the best way to bring in height and organic elements. Symmetry is also great for a table setting! We layered two of our white cordless lamps with the rattan shade to match Niña's decor. It's also a functional element for adding ambient lighting during the meal! Crystal candlesticks in varying heights were our final touch. Blue & White Centerpiece Vase Greenery White Cordless Lamps Wicker Shades Crystal Candleholders Wreaths are a classic Christmas touch. Our preserved boxwood adds that coastal touch while bringing real-life greenery into the home. We tied a gauzy ribbon in a dusty blue tone that turned out so delicate! These simple touches are such to create a beautiful space for you and your family to enjoy quality moments this holiday!

  • Tudor Tidings: Meghan's Traditional Home Feature

I'm so excited and completely honored to be sharing my home in the holiday issue for Traditional Home! I have always admired the homes shared in this issue and it's really the first feel of magic for the holiday season ahead. Traditional Home shares a beautiful range of homes, from minimal and mountain-inspired to decked and traditional. We have managed and planned many photoshoots for Meghan Blum Interiors, but being a part of this production was incredible. The amount of people perfecting the space to get it just right and the professionalism was unmatched. I want to share a special thank you to Krissa Rossbund, Adam Albright, and Ella Schulte. I feel lucky to have worked with such great talents. These photoshoots look glamorous and picture-perfect in print, but behind the scenes is another level of craziness! And we're here to share what the behind-the-scenes really looks like! Rooms filled with floral options and staircases with vases lined up like Home Goods- you can truly expect anything! The kids thought it was a fun experience too! They loved their part in running down the staircase in making Christmas cookies in the kitchen! I think this will be a memory that we all share as a family. Pictured from House of Blum: https://houseofblum.com/products/striped-table-runner?_pos=1&_sid=68778b583&_ss=r https://houseofblum.com/products/confiserie-tray-s?_pos=1&_sid=2d249524d&_ss=r The holidays, for me, are truly a time to slow down and enjoy what matters. I love spending time with my family and creating special memories together. We enjoy setting the house together and listening to Christmas music! I can't wait to begin ringing in the best time of the year! Thank you SO much to each and every one of you who has reached out and shared the kindest notes on this feature. I'm so honored to be a part of it! Cheers, friends!!

  • High Point Market: Trending

High Point Market happened this past week and we got to see so many beautiful designs that we wanted to share! The MBI team went to market this past spring, so we enjoyed market virtually this season! It's where all the designers around the country get together to look at new products on the market and see what's trending. It's a great opportunity to sit on the products and see the designs in person! Especially when you have that special project you're working on, it's a great time to find those unique pieces. Here's what we gathered! TEXTURE, TEXTURE, & MORE TEXTURE Boucle is still present in the design world! It's been reinterpreted into a more compact, flat texture versus coarse and nubby. We love this sophisticated version of a low-profile sofa. The seamless edges wrapped fully in the fabric is so exquisite and beautiful! This sofa was designed with a moody space in mind- white furniture with deeper-toned rugs and walls is such a cool combo! Another major texture trend we saw at market is METAL! Furniture fully made of metal or designed in a metallic finish is both contemporary and traditional in nature. I love the blended ambiance that traditional furniture in a contemporary space brings. Unexpected, polished, and refined is always the goal in our projects. METAL FINISHES This console table is on our wishlist! Wouldn't this be beautiful in a moody entryway? COLOR LOVE: SPLASHY WALLS Impactful color has splashed our walls for the past few years in a dramatic way. Deeper hues are becoming more popular with a preppy flavor. Blue and brown are making a comeback and we aren't upset about it! Shades of steel paired with clean and polished furniture is such a pretty combo. We also love this color with natural stained furniture and metal accents. Chocolate brown is on our trend report too. We're seeing this color specifically on the walls! LIGHT AND BRIGHT Airy spaces are IN! This version feels very editorial and reinvented. Clean lines, elegant furniture profiles, subtle patterns or textures, and a punch of color are the ingredients to replicate a room like the one below. Don't be fearful of feminine tones- mauve and rose are beautiful colors to try this trend with! This look is also really pretty in monochromatic tones. Camels and natural finishes paired with oatmeal and creamy textures are a beautiful way to create layers and cohesion. I love the look of the geometric rug with textured upholstered chairs! The little touch of contrast in the chair legs is the perfect amount!

  • Chandeliers: A Roundup of our Favorites

Lighting is the topic of conversation these days in interior design! It truly is the jewelry of the home! We've rounded up some of our very favorite chandeliers we've designed and why they are perfect for each space! Chandeliers are really a home's time to shine. A dining space is especially important to create that conversation starter and capture the room's ambiance with light. For the dining room in our Preppy Traditional Project, a cascading beaded chandelier really plays into the coastal feel this overall project had. Bamboo detailed chairs, slipcovered head chairs, and a light-washed table are the perfect accents to the chandelier! Round chandeliers can be beautiful hanging above a rectangular or round table. It adds and elegance and class to your space! a few of our favorite crystal chandeliers Let's be honest, there's just something about crystal! Light streaming in beams off it like no other material. It's timeless and beautiful! I especially love crystal when it comes to lighting. It plays well with both nickel and gold finishes too! Entryways are another opportunity to leave an impression! There's nothing like walking through the front door and feeling at peace with your home. Whichever scale your entryway is, layer in a beautiful fixture to welcome yourself home!

  • Project Reveal: Pattern Play

Welcome project #PatternPlay! Full of texture, autumnal tones, and layers. It’s always a treat designing for clients for the second time. When they were embarking on a major addition to their current home, we couldn’t wait to blend the rooms and aesthetics into one cohesive home. Keep scrolling as we share each space of the addition to this home! The informal living room is such a comfortable resting spot for the entire family to enjoy. Our clients enjoy family time and entertaining, so this lounge room is the perfect spot for chatting with friends or watching movies with their kids. We kept the furnishings and upholstery neutral-toned, so we could layer on a little color and pattern in other areas. Accessories in burnt orange pair beautifully with the patterned and solid velvet pillows on the sofa. We love ball-shaped pillows at the moment! It adds such a nice layer of whimsy and casualness. Each space blends seamlessly together in this home, so next we are heading to the casual dining space which is attached to the informal living room. A large barn door separates this space from the kitchen. Two different styled chairs around the table placed in an every-other pattern add such a cool look. It adds that next layer of unexpected that we love implementing in our projects! THE OFFICE: masculine, tonal, & inviting A cranberry-toned velvet sofa with bronze nailheads really packs the punch for this space. Stained bookshelves with a brick wall layered behind are such a neat, speakeasy vibe! This would be a great space for the parents to enjoy a nightcap too. The Basement: a bar, living space, drinking & game table A few design details we wanted to point out are the coffered ceilings and custom draperies. Usually, you wouldn't find ceiling details and such elevated features in a basement, but this one just feels like an extended living space! Swipe through the slide show to see the different areas of the basement. Bedroom & Bathroom: sophisticated, comfortable, & a touch of color This bedroom is ready for guests! We especially love the functioning window treatments and the ensuite bathroom. The tile and glass shower door is such a beautiful statement feature! Powder Bath: small spaces make the best impact Wool-like wallpaper, mirror, and tile blend together to create a natural and textured powder bath. Our hot tip- don't overlook smaller spaces. It's the perfect opportunity to layer in unique elements and go BOLD! Midwesterners treat their brisk fall days like treasured gems! Outdoor spaces are a high priority on my clients' lists. This outdoor kitchen and living room are perfect for most Iowa seasons with heaters and a covered ceiling. Stone and cedar are classic accent materials we love in this space. We would love to hear about some of your favorite spaces in our new project! For the full gallery of photos, head to this link! https://www.meghanbluminteriors.com/portfolio/pattern-play

  • Pumpkin Brie Appetizer

I really love to absorb the season I'm in. For fall, bring me all the cozy textures, seasonal flavors, and festive activities! I found this treat on Pinterest and wanted to share it with you! Not only is it cute, it's delicious too! here's what you will need: 1 brie wheel 1 package of Pillsbury crescent rolls (keep rolls intact and laid out like a sheet) 2 tablespoons of fig preserves cooking twine 1 egg (beaten) cinnamon stick apples & crackers for dipping cheeseboard toppings (optional) how to make it: Preheat oven to 375 degrees and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Lay crescent roll sheet on parchment paper and spread fig preserves in the center about the size of the brie wheel. Place brie cheese on top of the preserves. Wrap the crescent roll around the brie and pinch the edges to seal it. Cut off excess pastry. (The bigger the brie wheel, the less you’ll end up cutting.) Wrap kitchen twine around the brie to create pumpkin-like indents and tie. Be sure to space the twine out evenly. Flip the wrapped brie and brush all over with the egg white. Bake for about 20 minutes or until golden brown. Let cool for 3-5 minutes, then carefully cut and remove the twine. To serve, insert the cinnamon stick. Arrange sliced apples and crackers around the pumpkin. Enjoy! A few of my favorite charcuterie board must-haves are fruit (seasonal), candied pecans, 3 different cheeses (white cheddar, gouda, & something unique), jam, cheddar breadstick twists from Trader Joe's, gummy candy, and cornichon. Shop the cheeseboards we used here! Click here to shop the classic wood trivet. Click here to shop the white handled board.

Outdoor spaces are where we Midwestern-ers enjoy most when the seasons turn cooler! One of the most used rooms in our home is the addition we added a few years ago. We built an enclosed porch with tile floors and floor-to-ceiling screen walls- the perfect combo for a durable and family-friendly space. We furnished it with a sofa, swivel chairs, side tables filled with decor, and seasonal pillows. • Our 3 Tips for Creating Layers

You've likely heard the word "layers" and "layering" spoken in abundance when it comes to decorating. As interior designers, we don't talk about it enough! I thought there was no better season than fall to talk about layers and styling your homes. Here are some of our best tips collected into one blog post! #1 Layering with Books Styling with different colors of books or unique bindings is a great way to bring height to accessories. It also grounds them beautifully and makes the arrangement look set and intentional. Another way to layer books beautifully is to display open pages with a bookstand! Shop a few of our favorite books here! #2 Add a Mini Lamp Add a little light and a whole lot of interest to your bookcases or kitchen countertops with a mini lamp! We love using crystal to bounce light or a pretty alabaster finish for something more organic. #3 Faux or Fresh Foilage Seasonal foliage is perfect for embracing new seasons in your home! Whether you go for an effortless single-stem arrangement or a full arrangement that looks like it came straight from the floral shop, style with stems! Here are a few of our favorite arrangements we've styled within our projects. We can't wait to share more new projects, styling tips, and answer your most-asked questions! Send an email to hello@meghanbluminteriors.com if you have any questions for us! We love hearing from you!

  • Intentional Design Meets Home Office

Since work from home has started to take over the workforce, we're getting more and more requests to design home offices. And not just simple spaces to work, but inspiring retreats to spark creativity, have important meetings, and feel confident! We love the menswear-infused direction this home office took. Plaid draperies paired with the textured grassweave wallpaper are such a classic duo. Our client wanted sophisticated, timeless, and functional. We chose a more ornate-styled desk with large grooves and dramatic texture glossy finishes as the statement element of the room. The black brings a bold sophistication! The rug has a simple, metallic, and neutral-toned pattern that really brings in all the colorways. We love adding function to spaces that are used and loved by our clients. Adding a chair to the office was a must so our clients could meet in private during the hustle and bustle of family life. Two glass French doors allow for a quiet space to discuss important matters or plan a surprise dream vacation for their family! Did you know that we also love working on specific room projects? Designing living rooms, dining rooms, offices, and bedrooms are one of our specialties at MBI- curating concepts and layouts, to selecting custom fabrics and finishes, to ordering and delivering the pieces. Let us know how we can help transform your space into something beautiful with this link!

  • The Power of Window Treatments

Pulling a room together can kind of be like putting a recipe together. You start with your bases and then add a little extra of this and a little extra of that. In the end, you have a beautiful result. However, if you miss a few key ingredients then the dish isn't complete and may have your guests questioning! Window treatments are often not a priority for clients because 50% of the time they aren't a functioning aspect of the design. We always pull the fabric and hardware in the designs when it's needed so our clients can see the impact it has. Whether it's a roman shade or a drapery panel, we're going to show you the true power of going for that window treatment and completing your space! a few of our favorite drapery installs a few of our favorite roman shade installs layering window treatments One important aspect to window treatments is knowing when to layer and when you can go decorative. For bedrooms and bathrooms, I always recommend both function and decorative. Any place that you want private, both are necessary! For Meghan's primary bedroom, she layered a powered shade in a creamy texture with a white solid drape with a jeweled trim over the top. The antique brass rod is a beautiful combo added to this space with the crystal finials. Bringing the same drapery trim into the lumbar pillow was a nice touch for symmetry and creating a cohesive space! PRO TIP: Draperies can also help with sound control in more vaulted rooms. If you have a two-story living room or a bedroom with high ceilings, we recommend adding drapes to help with that! Next time you're questioning whether to add a window treatment or not, consider it! Or at least have plans for them later on to be added to the space. It will feel more put-together, fabulous, and comfortable!

  • When to Hire an Interior Designer

Partnership is one of the most important aspects when building a home. It should be fun and a shared collaboration of ideas, wants needs, and suggestions... between all parties included in the project. We received such an important question in our DM's last week that we wanted to dedicate an entire blog post to it. I'm sure that if this person was asking, there are likely others that are curious too! The question was: when do you hire an interior designer when building a new home or doing a full remodel? The answer is at the very beginning. Every person who may be working on your home (contractor, architect, interior designer, cabinet designer, etc.) should all be hired at the beginning so they can work together to construct a well-designed, cohesive home together. Each profession brings a different value. As a designer, we may suggest that a pocket door be placed on the pantry opening so people can't look at rows of messy cans or to add a ceiling detail to the dining room to bring attention to the statement light fixture that has been selected. It's a successful new construction or remodel when we work through the entirety of the project! We can begin designing and ordering lighting, furniture, rugs, and accessories so that when you move in, your new home will be fully installed and ready to enjoy! We love doing a big HGTV-style reveal after the duration of a project to reveal the final product! We would love to hear and answer any other questions you may have! Send an email to hello@meghanbluminteriors.com and we will answer all your questions!

  • Project Reveal: Classic Comfort

We are so excited to share our latest project reveal with you, our Classic Comfort project, a new construction and furnishings and decor project. We designed this home for a grown family as a place to refuge and enjoy life together. The construction details of the home are transitional with classic elements. The inviting nature of this home is warm, comfortable, and elegant. The Living Room One of the first spaces you see when you walk through the front door is the living room. It's the center of the home and full of calming and statement details. We designed the layout based on family gatherings and also comfort as husband and wife. Two sofas facing each other are perfect for having conversation, but also for laying down to watch a movie. Flanking two chairs and two ottomans around the leather coffee table brings extra seating and layers to the space. One detail of this living room we love is the beams. They add a stately layer to the ceiling and bring the eye to the beautiful light fixture and fireplace. Draperies flank the windows with iron rods and crystal finials to provide an extra layer of elegance. The Kitchen The lighting in this kitchen is one of our favorites. We love the shade pendant with iron accents. The linear design with the wrapped shade and the scale are perfect for this space! The counter stools in the black wood finish with large bronze nailheads are a pretty detail we want to mention. Upholstered counter stools can really warm a kitchen up and we love the look of these. We went with a grey vinyl on the seat and a check white & black fabric on the back. The vinyl seat is a great option because it allows you to wipe off stains and crumbs easily! The Dining Room For MBI, our clients are always asking for a formal dining space. They will never go out of style in our world! We brought a casual feel to this formal dining space since it is the primary eatery in the home. Located right off this kitchen, this is the perfect place to enjoy breakfast for one or dinner for eight! A large-scale linear glass-enclosed fixture is such a statement looking into this space. Walls of windows bring in the natural light and allow you to see out to the outdoor area with a pool. Stipes and solids are the prettiest combo when it comes to casual living. We added geometric tape to the linen draperies to tie in the formal look that our clients wanted just a glimpse of. We set the table with a gorgeous setting from houseofblum.com and we love the way it layered in! Casual stoneware plates, a simple centerpiece, and our iconic black & white striped table runner pair perfectly in this home.
