  • One of a Kind Collection!

Such an exciting collection went live on houseofblum.com today! I spent a year browsing through antique shops an collecting a truly curated One of a Kind, antique collection. I have been asked so many times where I source my personal items in my home and most are antiques. We took the time out of the hunt, and delivered beautiful pieces to you! Let me know in the comments which are your favorites!w "I love how vintage items breathe life into a home. Imperfections & patina layers in richness & history- unlike any other piece." -Meghan Blum Imbedding antiques into your home is both unique and affordable! It's also a sustainable way to decorate and style. The hunt is the fun part for a designer, but I understand that that can be the stressful aspect of antique-ing. My kitchen is a space in my home that is full of found treasures! I love to style my kitchen bookshelves with antiques. It's a great way to switch out color & play around with new combinations. There are so. many beautiful pitchers & vases in this collection- perfect for kitchen styling! One combo we're loving for spring & summer is this yellow & pink! It's bright, energetic, & just happy in the home! Let us know in the comments which pieces you're loving the most!! If antiques is something you are loving from House of Blum, let us know!

  • A Valentines Day Table

Valentine's Day is such a fun one to celebrate! Whether it's celebrated with your friends or a special someone, it's fun for everyone! It's also a treat with kiddos getting Valentine's made and finding little treats for them! We wanted to have our own celebration, so MBI is hosting a Galentine's Sip & Shop at our studio on Tuesday, Feb. 13 from 11am-2pm! We would love to see you there! We will have some new items in the showroom that are great for gifting or for your own personal homes! Invite your friends- we can't wait to see you! For a little Valentine's inspo, we wanted to share a pretty tablescape! Some of the items are a part of our Antiques Collection launching later this week, so stay tuned for that! Everything else is available now on House of Blum! I'm also linking a few of my personal favorites for Valentine's gifting & wish list items! We love this soft pink and green theme! The Dove & Cypress napkins were a hit last year, so we added the same print in placemats. The linen touch adds softness and extra emphasis on the pattern- which we love! The settings are simply drawn with a placemat, Natural Melamine Bamboo Plate in the dinner and salad size, a matching Dove & Cypress Napkin pulled through our new Gold Bamboo Rings. Two goblet sizes in crystal and red are accented perfectly (these are included in of our antique collection)! Our Quatrefoil serving board adds height to the centerpiece (also in the Antique Collection) and a statement focal point of bright white! Hosting Tip: for stress-free serving, we opt for Melamine plates! They aren't breakable and can be put in the dishwasher- win win! Let us know in the comments how you are spending Valentine's Day! We hope to see you at our party on the 13th! Cheers, friends!!

  • One-Room Wonders: Complete Transformations

We work on both full-home design projects, but also are successful at completing one-room wonders! We get so many questions if MBI offers design services to single rooms and the answer is... absolutely! Whether you want to completely revamp your space or layer in finishing touches, we would love to hear from you! Below we're sharing a few of our one-room wonder projects! We tried to compile the before photos as well, but some are new construction projects. Leave a question in the comments or what blogs you would like to see from us in 2024! Colorful Chalet: Living Room & Office First, we designed the office and a few years later we completed the living room. Some clients prefer us to design one room at a time and we enjoy the devoted attention it offers. This home was existing and is a cosmetic remodel. With fresh paint and furnishings, these spaces are completely transformed! BEFORE AFTER For the living room, we added fresh paint to the walls and ceiling, but kept the trimwork and beams the same stained wood tone. A new rug, furnishings, and decor were designed with interest & energy in mind. Solid upholstered sofas and chairs paired beautifully with the striped ottoman. Orange and green patterns play in the seating area and bounce tones off the custom draperies. Painted woodwork is such a trend we're seeing in design for 2024! Although this project is a few years old, it still stands beautiful today. Blue and orange are a classic combo. A mix of stripes, chevron, & geometric patterns bring a playful side to a traditionally serious space. Designed for conversing & enjoying an evening cocktail, this office is indeed a one-room wonder! BEFORE AFTER Whimsy Lynx: Living Room We loved designing this space for a dear client & friend! Her style is exciting and filled with color- a fresh opportunity! She spends a lot of time browsing through design books & magazines in this space, so there needed to be beautiful perching spots. BEFORE AFTER The traditional tailored sofa with a swivel chair was the best option. Another swivel chair with a skirted bullion fringe is now in the right corner of the room (not pictured). For this space, we added the rugs, furniture, task lighting, & decor. It turned out beautiful & has elevated our client's life- the best outcome! Menswear Style Home Office: Home Office When our clients are willing to go for it, it's a dream to design! The bones of this office were great, so we added a few designer layers to make it pop. The woodwork was already painted a beautiful grey/blue color and we wanted to play off that. We added a slightly patterned grasscloth in a lighter colorway to create a cozy element. Custom draperies make an impact and the plaid fabric played off the menswear vibe. A traditional, ornate desk in a rich black finish adds statement and texture. We filled the built-ins with accessories and mixed in their awards and collectibles as well. A leather swivel chair nestled in the corner of the room is perfect for meeting as a couple and fills the space well with a different fabric material. MBI is now accepting clients for spring and summer 2024! We would love to hear from you and begin planning and designing your dream space. • Working with MBI: Our Services

The beginning of a new year holds so much inspiration and opportunity! We've received some questions about our services and what it looks like to work with a designer at MBI, so we wanted to answer those burning questions here! Decor & Furnishings This is the perfect service if you aren't building a new home or remodeling, but still want a change in the way your home looks with furniture, artwork, lighting, rugs, and decor. A comfortable environment that embodies movement, inspiration, and your unique interests is so important to a successful space. First, you will meet with a designer to gather the scope of your project. They will take measurements and see your space to gather ideas and direction. Then, the designer will prepare a conceptional presentation to be sure the design style is aligned with your vision! After the specific items are selected and approved, the designer will order your pieces. Once they arrive in perfect condition, our design team and installers will install your pieces! We like to layer in decor and finishing touches to finish the space beautifully! This is a seamless process and brings fantastic results! New Construction Clients ideally hire us at the beginning of their new build to choose all selections for their homes. We also provide our expertise with layout, electrical walkthrough, trim stages, and other designer details. We select all the hard finishes (flooring, tile, countertops, cabinetry, trim details, lighting, plumbing fixtures, paint colors, etc.) and layer in the soft finishes to complete the project (furniture, rugs, pillows, bedding, artwork, task lighting, decor, etc.). One of our favorite things as designers is being able to visualize and design the full picture! When we work with contractors on the build of the home and follow that with the beautiful pieces placed inside, it's a special outcome. Photos below are shared of a beautiful primary bathroom from our #TimelessBeauty project that shows the transition from construction to installation, to completion. Layering in furniture, lighting, window treatments, and decor makes the space feel like home, even in the bathrooms! construction installation completion Remodel Full-home remodels are one of our specialties here at MBI! We've designed a few wonderful remodel projects and it's rewarding working with our client on reenvisioning their existing home. We shared a few dramatic before and afters from our #RevivedGlam project below! A formal foyer is the perfect place to pack a punch and make a statement! The only element of this space we kept was the staircase! We added custom millwork, fresh paint, new flooring, furniture and decor, mirrors, faux plants, and lighting to level up this space! Color was a big attribute of this project. Our clients wanted color and it to feel sophisticated, energizing, and classic. We kept the furnishings fairly neutral while adding decor and artwork to bring in color. This laundry room needed aesthetics and function. We didn't expand this space or reformat, but we did redesign the cabinetry, and that made a large difference. We added a sink with cabinetry to the left of the appliances and custom drying racks that pull out to the right of the appliances. We placed a large countertop space in the middle for folding clothes. Beadboard backsplash is a pretty detail that we hung artwork on. Wallpaper in this floral motif added a little beauty to this space! The crystal beaded flush mount acts as a focal point and a great source of lighting too! If you are looking for an experienced interior design team to work on your projects, we are accepting clients for 2024 spring and summer! If you have any more questions on our services, please visit this page on our website- https://www.meghanbluminteriors.com/des-moines-interior-design-services . • Statement Stripes: Bedroom Reveal

We're kicking off the new year with such an inspiring space! My sons, Victor and Harrison, began sharing a bedroom last year and it was so fun to redesign their shared space. They moved into Victor's existing room- he had wallpaper, draperies, a light fixture, and a few furnishings that we kept. I love the bunk bed look and it fits better than two twin beds here. I wanted this room to feel comfortable and playful, but polished at the same time. Fun furniture silhouettes like the spindle chair upholstered in orange fabric and the drum ottoman bring a youthful feel. I love blue & orange together so this was always going to be the colorways. When Traditional Home approached me last winter about photographing our home for the holidays, I knew I wanted to finish each space how I always envisioned it. The little details always go the furthest! I had custom lumbar pillows embroidered with their names and I love the way it turned out! The mix of stripes, gingham, and chevron adds such a layer of whimsy to their beds. The orange and white striped ceiling is one of my favorite design decisions to date! It's painted and of course, we're sharing the paint colors with you! This is such an easy weekend project that brings an extra layer of drama to your space! orange paint color: Husky Orange by Sherwin Williams (6636) My son, Victor, created this beautiful piece of artwork and it was featured in the Des Moines Art Festival! I got it framed and I love the way it worked in his bedroom. Designer tip: I suggest adding those special touches to the more intimate spaces of your home. Homemade art from the kids is such a sweet way to make it personal. Get it framed to match our decor for a designer finish. For the bunkbeds, I linked the exact bed in a similar finish below! I will also link a few other items that you can shop on LTK! Click here for bunk bed link. Click here for LTK links to shop the room. I encourage you to tackle that space in our home that has been on your mind! And approach it with flavor! You will not have regrets about being authentic and unique in your designs!

  • Thoughts as we close out 2023...

Wow, I can’t believe another year has gone by and we are closing the chapter of 2023. It was another great year and my heart feels so full and alive. I always enjoy this time of year to reflect and all that a new year brings! First and foremost I couldn’t close the year without thanking my exceptional design team. I am so fortunate to have a team that works so well together. The world of social media makes it look like I’m doing it all but it is all of their hard work that keeps everything moving. They are talented in their roles, extremely kind, and most importantly they like to have fun. We laugh a lot! And isn’t that what life is all about? That, to me, is a success- making the world more beautiful and having fun at the same time! Thank you MBI team for rocking it! I am also so very thankful for our clients and MBI supporters. You all make what we do so rewarding. The connection to you and your life’s story is so enjoyable and we love weaving your unique story into our designs. We appreciate your willingness to trust our creativity and give you truly beautiful homes. Our interior design industry is complex and at times, misunderstood. Running a design business is not for the faint of heart and requires attention to detail, people skills, creativity, and lots of documentation. I wanted this year to feel different and not get pulled down by the complexities of the business. I wanted to feel more alive and follow the sparkle on my path. I lived more in the moment and felt the success all around. 2023 was a year of growth that I can look back on and feel really good about. I turned 40 in August and it was a time to really reflect on transitioning into a new decade and that felt good! I have focused on more of my personal development and this year was no exception. I went on a retreat in November and came back feeling more alive and connected to my purpose. I look forward to using that energy for good and exciting things ahead. Cheers to a year of success and another exciting year ahead! One of the highlights of the year was being featured in a national publication not once but twice. Thank you Traditional Home for the feature and amazing honor.  I have looked through my mom's magazine since I was a little girl and never in my wildest dreams would have dreamt  I would be featured in it. Let alone be named a Rising Design Star as a feature. It truly was an honor that I am so blown away to receive. It was a joy to have our home featured as well and the kids had so much fun participating and knowing they would be in something so special. I love exampling what being a strong working mom can look like. Thank you to Traditional Home for the feature and exclusive list. I am truly honored and grateful! Cheers! -Meghan

Sausage Hashbrown Casserole Recipe: Tater Tot Breakfast Casserole Overnight Eggs Benedict Casserole Gooey Cinnamon Rolls Coffee Cake Banana Bread Cranberry Orange Muffins 3. Cranberry Crockpot Meatballs are both easy & yummy! Cookie Trays provide a sweet option for everyone! 4. Add something fun to your table setting! For Niña Williams Blog Christmas table setting, we added a mini bottle of Prosecco to each plate! Each guest can pop their own bubbly and pour it into a beautiful coupe glass with fresh berries. It's elevated, exciting, and gets your guests involved! It's also unexpected, and we love that! For guests who are underage or do not prefer alcohol, you can add a sparkling mini bottle or a soda to enjoy over the berries. Another idea for a place setting is a hand-written note! It's so special and perfect for spreading cheer throughout the season. 5. A self-serve bar allows guests to prepare their beverage of choice to their liking! It also saves you from making cocktails all night! A nice variety of liquors, bubbly, canned drinks, beer, and N/A options are all you need! I listed a few favorite combos below! A mule bar is fun & festive! Have cans of ginger beer, vodka, and bitters on hand. Add cut citrus fruits, cranberries, and rosemary sprigs to top the drinks in small bowls. Champagne & fixings! Filling a beautiful crystal punch bowl with yummy flavors is perfect for guests of all ages! I hope these simple tips help you with your holiday planning! I can't wait to hear how it goes! • Trend Watch: Bows!

This frilly accessory is taking over the internet- from our clothing to our homes, bows are hot this season! We really love anything new and exciting at the MBI studio. Some trends were eager to hop on and others we let be, but bows sure have our attention! The photo to the left in particular has stolen our hearts! The traditional decor, cozy jute rug, and captivating artwork paired with a colorful & playful tree are so inspiring. I love the shades of pink floating down the tree so loosely tied. Another trend for Christmas trees that we're loving this year is tinsel. The silver sparkly decoration is so nostalgic and fun to look at. Twinkling lights make it even more magical! All photos were taken from Pinterest. I switched up my living room tree this year and layered in colorful bows and tinsel! I had to hop on this trend too because it's so cute & honestly matches perfectly with the vibe I have going on! We're not only seeing bows creep into our holiday decor, but also dominate fashion! Hair bows are such a chic way to layer on accessories for the holiday season. Bows are lovely for holiday events and even for a casual jeans & sweater moment. Whether it's velvet or satin, we're loving bows! We linked a few of our very favorites below. Reminder to grab your copy of Traditional Home's Winter issue!

  • Layering in Christmas Decor

Holiday decorating has really evolved in the past couple of years! It's gone from using generational hand-me-downs to completely revamping our holiday decor every year. It's curated, layered, and beautiful, and we're here for it! Meghan's home has many traditional elements when it comes to Christmas decor, but there's also a fresh layer incorporated throughout! Holiday signs, bottlebrush trees, colorful ornaments, and flocked foliage fill the nooks and crannies of Meghan's home while layering in her everyday decor as well. We're going to share a few favorite layering pieces to accent your holiday decor! Picture frames are the perfect way to switch out photos each season and keep it seasonal. Meghan loves adding holiday frames with holiday photos around her home to evoke the memories made! Collecting different colors and heights of the frames are the secret to getting that "layered" look! Cozy throw blankets in leopard or tartan are a great way to bring in the seasonal essence while adding function. There's nothing better than cozying up to the fire with a comfortable chic blanket while watching Christmas movies. Throw blankets also make great hostess gifts for those throwing parties this season! The kitchen is a great way to layer in beauty for all seasons! Meghan styled it with red and green keeping it traditional! Her bistro-style bookshelves are filled with decor she has collected from antique shops over the years. Ginger jars and brass accents are used in her everyday decor and layer into the holiday season as well. Blue and blush ornaments fill Meghan's family room tree for a spin on classics! Adding gold and rose gold ribbons and sprays are great tones for the accompanying colors. Be sure to follow along on our Instagram to see a few changes that Meghan made to her tree this year. Hint hint... tinsel and ribbon! The tree in her dining room is always real and it's become a family tradition to cut it down after Thanksgiving. Colorful ornaments with plaid ribbon wrap around the tree layered with silver picks. A fun way to layer is using a favorite fabric or throw blanket as the tree skirt! It's affordable and chic! We would love to see how you style your home for the holidays! Please share photos with us by tagging us on Instagram or sending them to hello@meghanbluminteriors.com! Cheers, friends!

  • Serene Tradition Project Reveal

Revealing a new project is truly as exciting as Christmas morning... and since it's that time of year- we really can't wait to share this project! Classic, timeless, elegant, and family-oriented are all descriptors of this new construction home. You will see variations of blue colorways throughout this home- in wallpaper, fabric, rugs, and accessories. It's truly a neutral hue when it comes to traditional design. Our client's young family of 6 keeps family values at the center of their home. Each night, they eat in the formal dining room where an eighth-generation hutch nestles into the corner holding beautiful china dishes. We aren't afraid to incorporate our client's existing furniture pieces, especially when it's an heirloom like this one. We opted for two light fixtures to create dimension and draw the eye up. Two fabrics were selected for the captain chairs- a neutral staple for the inside and on the outer we layered in pattern! The fabric on the chairs is complemented perfectly with the creamy linen drapes with floral tape. A pop of yellow in the tape brings an extra layer of color to this monochromatic space. Photography Credit: Adam Albright The kitchen and living room flow together which is perfect for the family floor plan. Natural wood tones, white, brass, and marble subway tiles combine forces to bring a more transitional feel to the kitchen. Pendants with both black & brass accents are a focal point. We love the look of using both natural wood tones for a kitchen island and white cabinetry on the outer cabinets! Brass cabinet hardware looks beautiful in both tones, so it's the perfect answer for adding dimension to a rather neutral kitchen! The kitchen and living spaces are always rewarding to design. They are the heart of the home and typically our most used spaces. For this family of six, they wanted optimal seating that was comfortable and kid-friendly. With the help of performance fabrics, we were able to design with all-white fabrics! Blue and green throw pillows bring interest and whimsy to this traditional living room. Now, let's head to one of our favorite spaces in the home! Smaller spaces are the perfect opportunity to pack the punch. We wanted to be thoughtful about which patterns we selected for wallcoverings so they didn't overwhelm the other features. A medium-scale Greek key octagonal print was perfect in a two-tone blue hue. Deep navy and ocean blue accent brass mirrors and sconces perfectly in this petite space. Charming details surround the mirror with small birds and branches. I love incorporating something unexpected! If you love some sneak peeks of this project, head to the full gallery with the button below! Thank you so much for reading our blog and following along on our projects with us! We can't wait to share more with you. See you next time! Cheers!

  • Meghan's Thanksgiving Table

The holiday season is a favorite. It's so easy to skip over Thanksgiving and go straight to Christmas decor, but I think Turkey Day really deserves its special decorations too. I host each year for Thanksgiving, so I like my home to keep the warmth and earthy tones until after the big meal! I typically layer my table with pieces from my entertaining collection- some new and mostly old or vintage! I shared all the items I used for my table and similar items too! Happy Hosting! For each setting... Pairing blue and orange is such a classic combo for Autumnal styling. I played off this combo with the glasses and place setting. My blue & white are from Williams Sonoma and wine goblets are brand new to House of Blum! I've always enjoyed the process, planning, and styling when it comes to hosting! I love sharing my passion through House of Blum with you all too! For the centerpiece... I used a large bread bowl filled with gourds and mini pumpkins of all shapes and colors to bring the season inside. My husband, David, is a hunter so I layered a few antlers in the bottom of the bowl for some dimension. I then stuck pheasant feathers upwards around between the pumpkins to create height and interest. This is an affordable and impactful arrangement that can be accomplished beautifully by season decor around your home! One of my new favorite items at House of Blum is our cordless lamps. I used two of the Gold Leaf Cordless Lamps here to add ambient lighting. They turn on with the touch of a finger and will hold a charge well through a meal! I also added our Elizabeth Candelabras and a few pheasant candlesticks from Williams Sonoma. I love mixing silver and gold to celebrate! The patina on both live finishes is beautiful and stately! CLICK HERE TO SHOP MY TABLE I would love to see how you set your Thanksgiving tables this season! Please email your photos to hello@meghanbluminteriors.com so I can see them! Cheers, friends!
