DSM Home Design Awards 2023 Recap!

Last week, February 28th, we had the honor of attending the 2023 DSM Home Design Awards. We were nominated for 4 distinct spaces in the decor category - Modern Living Room, Dining Room, Bedroom, Specialty Room Wine or Bar - 1 distinct space in the remodel and renovation category - Living Room Remodel. There were some fantastic designs in every category- and 1 in Architecture that was Vacation Home. It was so fun to see all of the great designers and rooms making Des Moines more beautiful. It was also very fun to take home 3 golds, a silver and a bronze!

MODERN LIVING ROOM: GOLD

When every piece in the room is a statement piece, we're big fans. This project stretched our team in new ways by necessitating that every item included was the most functional, beautiful and interesting choice available. We were on a mission to prove that minimal and modern was compatible with striking organic forms, a mix of interesting textures and luxurious upholstered pieces. We are in love with the outcome of this project and we were ecstatic to learn it won Gold for the category of Modern Living Room.

"A complete remodel of this main-level interior created a calming, minimal vibe. Meghan Blum Interiors added new furniture, original artwork and other accessories to convert this West Des Moines living room from an outdated Tuscan style to something more contemporary and sophisticated. The concept of minimalism allows individual pieces to shine. A crisp black and white palette lets the accents chairs, artwork and table details enhance the room, while lighting and a large rug keep the space warm and comfortable." DINING ROOM: GOLD

This dining room was all about the details. From floor to ceiling, every inch of this glam dining room was given an extra dose of detail. While neutral in tone, the anchoring rug is truly stunning with a subtle tone-on-tone design that almost shimmers. The bamboo-look chairs are feminine and cool. The classic design of the head chairs are finessed with trim and a beautiful chinoiserie fabric that ties into the collection of vases on the table. We fell in love with the raised design of the console doors and style it with a set of metallic lamps and gilded mirror. We used architecture to tell a more interesting story as well. While the main walls are wallpapered in a textured deep blue, we had the buffet set back into an alcove and used metallic star wallpaper as the backdrop. Up top, a coffered ceiling with a stunning beaded chandelier finish off a refined and fabulous dining space.

"This formal dining room shakes up traditional style with elements of preppy coastal charm. 'Classic finishes with a pop of navy made this dining room exquisite,' says Katelyn Huber with Meghan Blum Interiors. 'One of our favorite features of this space was the antique mirror and wallpaper with micro stars inlaid on the wall.' The casual furniture keeps the room inviting for all manner of occasions, from holiday dinners to quick family breakfasts. The freestanding crisp white console table and chandelier made of tiny shells further contribute to the beachy theme." - DSM: Home Design Awards 2023

BEDROOM: GOLD

A house on the water deserves a soothing, relaxed palette for the primary bedroom. Each element needed to have its own distinct design contribution to the space since we didn't want to overdue the amount of furnishing or accessories in a retreat space. The architecture and symmetry of the windows gave us the perfect space for this gorgeous bed with tufting, nailheads and a unique corner detail. Backed by orange grasscloth wallpaper and and anchored by a set of stunning nightstands with loads of storage. We love how this getaway space feels for our amazing clients and we are honored to have it win an award for best bedroom.

"Using neutral colors and traditional patterns, Meghan Blum Interiors created a tranquil palette for this primary bedroom in Clear Lake. The layered textures and fabrics add comfort without sacrificing style. Camel-toned grasscloth wallpaper contrasts with upholstered white linen headboard, and plaid and silk throw pillows add cozy depth. Gray wood tones in the nightstand alongside the white duvet create a soft feeling throughout the bedroom, making it easy for the room's occupants to surrender to restful luxury. - DSM: Home Design Awards 2023
