A Spring Refresh on the Stairs

Seasons inspire new energies and for us designers, that transfers into our homes. The homes we design for our clients and our personal spaces too! When thinking of a “weekend refresh” or a DIY that homeowners can do to freshen their space on a dime, staircases are one of the first things that come to mind. Leaving out wainscoting, high-end stair runners, and layering pieces, like artwork, a staircase makeover can really be a budget project if you choose to do it yourself. We share our most-loved staircases and what made them stand out in the crowd!

THE BLUM TUDOR STAIR TRANSFORMATION

The Blum’s purchased their 1917 Tudor home 4 years ago and underwent a major remodel. They added on rooms, gutted bathrooms, completely redesigned the kitchen, and changed lighting throughout. One simple change that was consistent throughout the impressive remodel was fresh paint. The living room fireplace, all walls, trimwork, & staircase all received a refresh. Meghan loves high contrast. Choosing two opposite paint colors to paint the entry way stunner really packs that designer punch.

Paint Colors Used: Tricorn Black, SW (in a high gloss finish) & White Dove, BM

NEUTRAL ELEMENTS PROJECT: WHY WE LOVE WAINSCOTING

Full of glam, character, and pretty details? Those are Meghan Blum Interiors aesthetics! We love the neutral herringbone-patterned runner against the black tread. Bright white wainscoting and spindles balance the black well. A large-scale iron light fixture is the perfect touch to keep it classic. The entire staircase is truly a piece of art when you walk into the home! This project was a complete remodel, but the staircase again just got a facelift!

Paint Colors Used: Tricorn Black, SW (in high gloss finish) & Chantilly Lace, BM
