Rooted: Moving Into the New Year

There is something about the beginning of a new year that I have always loved. It feels quieter and more intentional, like an invitation to pause before the pace of life picks back up. It is a natural moment to reflect on where you have been, where you are, and what truly matters most.

I have always believed in setting intentions rather than rigid resolutions. Each year, I choose a word of the year. One word that acts as both a compass and an anchor. A word I can return to when life feels busy, overwhelming, or noisy.

This year, my word is rooted.

It came to me clearly and without hesitation. Rooted feels strong, grounded, and deeply intentional. It represents a season of confidence and clarity, being firmly planted in who I am and what I believe in.

I feel rooted in the woman I am becoming. Rooted as a mother, present and steady. Rooted as a designer, trusting my eye, my instincts, and the years of experience behind them. And rooted as a businesswoman, standing confidently in my vision and values.

To me, being rooted does not mean standing still. It means growing with purpose. It means knowing where you come from, honoring what sustains you, and allowing yourself to expand without losing your foundation.

I also love this time of year because it is when we naturally reset our homes. Just as we reflect internally, our homes deserve the same thoughtful attention. The new year is a beautiful opportunity to ask:

  • Does my home still reflect who I am today?

  • What feels heavy or outdated?

  • What brings me comfort, joy, and ease?

Being rooted at home does not always mean a full redesign. Sometimes it is as simple as editing what no longer serves you, refreshing a room with new textiles, rethinking how a space functions, or bringing in pieces that feel more aligned with your life right now.

Our homes should support us, hold us, inspire us, and offer a sense of calm. A rooted home feels intentional, layered, and personal. It is not about trends, but about creating spaces that feel deeply you.

As we move into the new year, my hope is to remain rooted, personally and professionally. To move forward with clarity, confidence, and grace. To create spaces that feel grounded yet elevated, timeless yet fresh.

If you are choosing a word this year, I encourage you to lean into it fully. Let it guide your decisions, your energy, and your surroundings.

Here is to a year of being rooted in our lives, our homes, and the things that truly matter most.

Cheers to the new year and exciting things ahead,

Meghan
