Designer Diaries: Transitioning My Home for Fall
Victor is in school, the mornings are cool and football season is in full swing. Fall is officially here (but I respect those of you that chase the summer until the end of September)! I’m always one to celebrate the seasons and holidays with a few intentional changes in decor.
As a designer, it can be hard to see all the newest furniture styles and trends happening and stay content with not buying large pieces when we don’t need them. To make my spaces feel new and refreshed, I like to use pillows, throws and floral choices to celebrate the different seasons.
One area that I thought might be challenging to make feel like fall is the sunroom. I love the gorgeous light that pour into the space but it doesn’t necessarily feel cozy. By adding darker textiles and throws, it pulls the black from the fireplace in the adjacent living room and gives great balance to the airy feel of the room.
By choosing timeless prints on upholstery fabrics, I know that I’ll be able to swap out pillows for years to come from within the collection I already have. But if I find a new print from Schumacher that I HAVE to have, getting a few custom pillows made is definitely more affordable than swapping out a chair or ottoman.
In the spring, fewer pillows, vases of ranunculus and light weight throws are perfect. For now, I’m excited to cozy up in this space and watch the game tomorrow!
