Transforming a Dated Family Room into an Artful, Modern Space
We get to work on projects of every scale, budget and style and it’s the best. Some of our clients are building homes from the ground up and have us help with the whole process but we also get to enter into home renovations and even simple room makeovers. The variety is really energizing and the smaller projects where we’re able to see almost instant transformations is so satisfying.
MBI Designer, Kaitlyn Lepley, modernized this large family room for her client who wanted to give the room a fresh start when she moved in. The wooden built-ins felt dark and under utilized. The first way to give these shelves new life was to paint them a gorgeous dark blue. From there, the next step was to give the shelves some style. The hard part was that they were made to be more like media shelves for movies and books than they were intended to display beautiful things. Their 7-inch depth made choosing decor and accessories challenging. “While pulling accessories I made sure to grab artwork in various sizes, variety of vases, taller items as well as small scaled items to layer in as well as smaller books to give items height,” Kaitlyn shares. “We incorporated a lot of artwork to layer since we didn't have a ton of space to utilize!”
