Designer Diaries: The Dining Room Design

Things are really starting to take shape around here! Sometimes the giant projects and renovations like the kitchens and baths take so much energy and so many decisions that there’s not much left over for the less intensive rooms. One of the rooms that is getting more of a makeover than a total remodel is the dining room.

The dining room has a great footprint, gorgeous arts and crafts wainscoting, hardwood floors and incredible natural light. SUCH a great space to start with.

While this space has a great foundation, it definitely needs some updating. I wanted to add some drama that still felt traditional to the house and the perfect starting point was a stunning bird print wallpaper by Mary MacDonald. I love the crispness of the black. I also found this amazing metal wallpaper for the ceiling that looks like tin tiles classic to the era of our home. To brighten, simplify and modernize the space, the plan is to paint the woodwork white. Adding gorgeous light fixtures, custom curtain panels and transitional furniture will make this space truly shine and feel like our home.

The goal is to keep that classic original character while making the space feel completely unique.
