Designer Profiles: Danielle Bower
Our newest designer, Danielle Bower, joined our team at the end of 2018. Danielle has been the perfect fit for our firm and we want our readers and clients to get to know her as well as we’ve been able to these last few months.
How did you become interested in Interior Design?
Growing up, my parents renovated our family home. It was an old farmhouse that they updated, and the process always fascinated me, and I had definite opinions about what design decisions should be made. I remember raking leaves into a floor plan as a child so I think it is something that has always been a passion of mine.
What inspires you in design?
Color and pattern have always inspired me. I love mixing patterns, and using pattern to create beautiful settings.
What is your favorite part of the job?
I just love the feeling of a clean, well designed home. I cannot explain the joy it brings me, and I want to bring that to each of my clients. Design should also be personal. I love creating that personal space for child or nook for a beloved pet, and making it beautiful.
What is your best design tip?
Be brave. Go for that paint color, light fixture or bold wallpaper. Design should make you happy, and often times that brave or bold design element can do wonders. If all else fails, go with a classic white room with one bold element.
Favorite color to use in design?
Green. To me, it is a neutral.
Switching gears, why do you love Des Moines?
I get a small town vibe with bigger city opportunities. There are a ton of entertainment and cultural events each week. With each changing season, I always seem to find something new to do. I don't think I will ever tire of Des Moines.
What is your favorite restaurant in town?
That is a tough one. If it’s a date night, I would say Table 128 right now. If we are going out to dinner as a family on a Friday night, we absolutely love our local Mexican restaurant, El Azteca.
What do you do in your free time?
Our children keep us pretty busy, but I really love to read. I also love to plan vacation travel. In another life, I would be a travel agent. We are avid Iowa State Cyclone fans and try to get to as many games as we can.
Favorite way to splurge?
Travel. While I would love to treat myself to that gorgeous designer handbag (and I still might do that too), I really love to experience new places, or old favorites. My husband and I recently celebrated our 10 year wedding anniversary with a trip to England and it was a dream come true to wander the romantic streets teeming with history.
